Synopsis: There is much uncertainty in our nation with the recently reported surge in the number of positive cases of the Corona virus and what is happening in the voting irregularities surrounding the presidential elections. Thrown into that mix are the normal day-to-day challenges to our faith as we deal with circumstances beyond our control. There is plenty to tempt us to respond wrongly in this time of great instability! Our text tonight offers us hope and encouragement. By God's grace we can know the kind of life being depicted in our text to help us live with certainty in times of uncertainty.
Synopsis: It is very easy to get agitated or anxious with all the instability and insecurity due to what is happening in our nation right now--especially with all the shenanigans related to the national elections. At the same time there is much uncertainty as to what all this means for the future of our nation and for us as individuals if a particular candidate becomes president and enforces progressive policies which will bring regressive results (See Jeremiah 7:24). During these uncertain days, it is good for us to remember our God is still on His throne and sovereignly at work to accomplish His redemptive purposes -- all for His own glory. He is in control so that means we don't have to be and so therefore we can rest in His care and experience His peace.
Tonight's message is geared towards fortifying our hearts and minds and reminding us of the foundational truths upon which we can build our lives.
Synopsis: We continue to witness all kinds of upheaval in our nation. Not only are we dealing with the Corona virus and civil unrest in major Democrat-run cities, but now also the widespread charges of election fraud and cheating to ensure a particular candidate's election to the presidency. Given the uncertainty regarding our nation's future--especially with the regressive results that progressive policies will bring (Cf. Jer. 7:24!) if carried out--it is good for us to either be instructed or reminded of some stabilizing truths we need to embrace as we face the present and the future. What is Faith's Response to the Future? This message from Habakkuk 3:16-19 answers that question.
Synopsis: Someone once said, "progressive policies always bring regressive results." Jeremiah 7:24 would support that claim! It's with that in mind and the upcoming critical elections this Tuesday that the words of our text serve as both a warning and an admonition for us who know the Lord.
The Apostle Paul took advantage of his Roman citizenship in Acts 16:37-39, 21:39; 22:25-29; 25:1011. So there is scriptural warrant for us as American citizens to exercise our privileges and rights of citizenship -- part of which is making the time to cast an informed vote in our elections!
Synopsis: In part 2 of this message, we look at the the cure for the problem of racism, riots and reconciliation. What we are experiencing right now with all the racism, rioting, and lawlessness is not unique to 21st century America. It's the sordid history of mankind ever since the Fall in the Garden of Eden. God's Word records the true history of mankind and it also reveals the message of hope and rescue through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Synopsis: Current events have brought much uncertainty and have unsettled so many: we are not only dealing with the Covid-19 health crisis but now the terrible losses sustained by riots, looting and other expressions of lawlessness in cities across the U.S. in response to the horrible and wrongful death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Is there a solution to all the hatred, anger, prejudice, chaos and uncertainty it all brings? Where's the hope for unity and harmony so these problems can be resolved?
In part one of two, we look tonight at the cause of the problem that fills so much of our news feeds and the TV news. Then we look at the solution God proposes.
