Paul's argument in Romans 6 is "the success of our Christian lives, the enjoyment of our freedom in Christ depends upon our living life with reference to the Gospel of Christ and in the power of Gospel grace." Our union with Christ is what sets the goal of Christlikeness in motion. Knowing the truth, personally believing the truth, leads to doing the truth. That's God's plan for us to follow. The truth is we are freed from sin's bondage: the ties have been severed. The Gospel is our Declaration of Independence from Sin's tyranny. It declares us to be free: so live like it!

Personal Freedoms

Synopsis: In this very personal psalm of praise to God, David reflects upon God and His providential care of him. We live in times of great uncertainty - visible threats as there is much unrest in cities throughout our country in which roaming mobs of anarchists are looting, destroying, defacing, or toppling historical monuments and threatening the lives of citizens, as well as the continued invisible threat of the Corona virus. So it's good for us to address those issues from God's Word. On a weekend that we celebrate our nation's 2444th birthday, our thoughts naturally go to the concept of freedom. This psalm details five freedoms (vv. 1b-6) that are to be experienced by every one who is a sheep in God's pasture.
